Back in the 2000s, I had a persistent obsession with the Spyderco Wegner CX11 Mouse. This baby brother to the larger Wegner design featured in ads and was sometimes seen on the forums back then. As a fan of the C48 Tim Wegner design, I really wanted to chase down this charming lil’ big folder. Alas, they were never easy to find – especially from my spot in the world. However, if you want something bad enough, it’ll flow towards you later in life.
Around that same time in the 2000s, I got to know a new friend en fellow Spyderco forumite, Jur who sadly isn’t with us anymore, and he actually owned a Mouse. Examining and handling the knife in person did not disappoint. Jur carried it a lot too, so much so that I never wanted to make an offer on buying it from him. Life went on and although I never forgot about the Mouse, I kind of put it in the back of my mind.
After Jur’s passing, I happened to come across a listing from his brother with several knives from Jur’s collection. Among those listed was the Mouse. I immediately fired off an e-mail expressing my interest. And now, this knife that I wanted for so long, is in my collection!
It. is fun to see someone like Spydercollector, one of the OGs of Spyderco collecting, and a legend in the community, get totally gigged over an acquisition. He geeks out like the rest of us.
