The knife community lost a good one this past week, when Mike Crenshaw passed away suddenly. He was a collector, and a passionate Knife Rights supporter, volunteering at their booth every Blade Show. That is where many will have seen him, even if they did not know his name.
He had an encyclopedic knowledge of automatic knives in particular, always fascinated by a new mechanism or lock. He was. one of my favorite “amiable skeptics”, showcasing heterodox views on an astounding array of topics.
I got to know Mike through the weekly Friday lunches that I used to attend regularly. Allen Elishewitz, who would attend before he moved to Texas, referred to the loose group of collectors, makers, and other “knife people” as the “Knoxville Knife Syndicate”. He an Mark were even closer than I was to him, and will likely have something to say in the next Print issue.
He will be missed. The community won’t be the same without him.
Requiescat in Pace.
