Here’s an ICYMI that you can still catch if you’re quick. GiantMouse dropped the latest model in its premium GM line a few weeks ago, the GM13. This one is probably the most out-there design from the company yet as it features the seldom-seen hawkbill blade.

Even though Jens Anso left the company in January, it looks like there was at least one more model that bears his name, as the GM13, like all of the knives that preceded it, is a joint effort between Anso and Jesper Voxnaes. Over the years the two designers discovered a way to fuse their individual styles into a third, distinct style unique to the GiantMouse line – and while the GM13 is still an obvious part of that lineage, it really is unlike any GiantMouse piece that came before.

The major reason for this, of course, is the blade. In the EDC knife space, the hawkbill blade is rarely at the forefront of peoples’ minds, but it has always enjoyed a cult classic status in that field, with many users swearing by the usefulness of the recurve, talon-ish cutting edge. The GM13’s particular hawkbill measures 2.8 inches long, but it should cut above its size class thanks to a very dramatic recurve that turns the point into a fierce piercer, and one of the natural benefits of the hawkbill’s recurve is additional cutting power – particularly through tough, fibrous material.

If you’re cutting through tough materials you need a tough steel – and so the presence, on the GM13, of S90V should be welcomed all around. S90V’s generally high performance characteristics make it a good choice for many different roles, but the presence of very high wear resistance in particular makes it a great choice for a workin’ knife. This rugged blade folds into a waspish, swooping handle made from titanium slabs with an orange peel finish, housing a crossbar lock under the hood. The GM13 tips the scales at a svelte 3 ounces even.

It is available now, but not for long: it’s limited to just 400 pieces.
