The CRKT Xolotl, a Forged by War model from veteran Michael Rodriguez, is now receiving an OTF automatic model. The Xolotl OTF takes the inherently tactical nature of its predecessors and elevates it with the dual action setup.

Named after an Aztec deity, the Xolotl started life as a manual folder, albeit one with a heavy dollop of traditional switchblade aesthetic ladled in. That was back in 2020; four years later the Xolotl family grew with a fixed blade variant, which got rid of the interior mechanism but kept the switchblade style look. Now, a year later, the knife is transformed once again, becoming only the second OTF in the CRKT lineup, following after the Twist Tighe family.

The Xolotl OTF’s blade is 3.5 inches long, but that doesn’t tell the whole story, because its symmetrical spear shape is sharpened on both sides – a decision that reduces its legality but heightens its authenticity to the switchblade part of its heritage. This being a premium-level CRKT product, the company went all-in on the blade steel, crafting this one from CPM-MagnaCut.

Deployment of the Xolotl blade is achieved with a spine-riding push toggle, which sends the blade out when pushed forward, and retracts it when pulled back. The frame is made from aluminum – probably the most popular handle material for an OTF, for a number of reasons – sporting an all black coating and a reversible, deep carry pocket clip. The Xolotl OTF improves on the weight of its parent model, weighing just 3.2 oz.

It is available now.
