As Christmas draws closer and closer, bearing down on us like the Polar Express, anybody in search of a high-utility stocking stuffer – or just another piece to add to their own collection in this Season of Plenty – should check out the Voidflare, a new piece from the busy bees at Civivi.

While Civivi and its sister brands Sencut and WE Knife Co. have wrangled themselves a hefty group of designer/maker collaborators, the in-house crews have amassed quite the portfolios for themselves as well. There probably isn’t a major knife genre that they haven’t taken a crack at over the years, and have even journeyed into the design hinterlands with unusual pieces like the recent Partake food-oriented multitool.

Enter the Voidflare, a new Civivi flipper from that company’s tireless cadre of designers. It could best be described as an “aesthetically-conscientious budget EDC,” with a relatively wallet-friendly price tag but style to spare. We see that clearly in both handle and blade – the latter of which measures 2.92 inches and flaunts an extra-wide decorative fuller. Made from 14C28N, it’s a worker as well as a looker, shrugging off rust and holding an edge admirably for the price point.

The Voidflare’s handle has that tapered, arcing, almost dolphin-esque shape to it, with proud liners letterboxing the scales – made from black G-10, cross-hatched white resin, wood, or aluminum-flecked white G-10. As we have come to expect, there is a deep carry, loop over pocket clip – one that, in this case, can be flipped to either side of the knife to better accommodate lefties. The locking mechanism is a liner lock, and the Voidflare’s total weight is 2.92 oz.

It’s available now.
