Heads up, there’s a new Grzegorz Grabarski design on the way from Bestech Knives. The Noctar layers a stylish exterior on top of no-nonsense working knife bones, and is an entry in the sub-$100 section of Bestech’s catalog.

Hard to believe it, but we have been covering Grabarski, also known as “Kombou’s” work since 2019. Bestech tapped him for a design back then and he’s been a staple member of their crew ever since, part of a class of designers who came up alongside these younger knife manufacturers that have entered onto the scene in the last decade or so. Grabarski’s work moves across use categories and size classes, but always adheres to a clean, futuristic aesthetic – no historical homages for Kombou!

The Noctar is one of those knives that is much bigger than it looks in pictures. At a glance, you might think this was a sub-3 inch blade, but no: the Noctar’s cutting edge runs all the way out to 3.71 inches, giving its drop point shape plenty of room for both straight and curved edge geometries. Despite its somewhat imposing size there’s an egalitarian, utility-driven soul to the Noctar, and it doesn’t seem outrageous to ask this piece to handle life’s more delicate daily cutting jobs as well as the larger, gnarlier ones.

Made from 14C28N steel and opened only via thumb oval, the Noctar’s blade nests deep into a handle made from pleasingly contoured G-10, available in a litany of different color and blade finish combos. The Noctar weighs just around 5 oz. in any of these configs, and a reversible pocket clip and crossbar lock join forces with the thumb oval to earn this model a 100% ambidextrous status.

The Noctar will be available soon.
