The Benchmade Bailout is getting fancied up for fall, with two new variations featuring full carbon fiber scales. The new look is accompanied by a pair of new steel options for the Bugout’s hardworking big brother.

It probably doesn’t need to be said, but the Bugout, an ultra lightweight folder designed for backpackers counting their ounces, has been one of the Blue Butterfly’s biggest hits in the last decade. With that success came variations aplenty and, eventually, a major line expansion in the form of the Bailout. This model took the weight-conscious, pure utility design of the Bugout and moved it into a hard use/tactical direction – to much acclaim of its own.

Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of Benchmade models receive a carbon fiber version. It’s kind of a tradition at this point, and one that the Bugout has already partaken in, so it was only natural that the Bailout would follow. It’s worth noting that the CF here makes these Bailouts light but, at 2.18 oz., not quite the lightest versions – that honor still goes to the Grivory models, but the difference is minimal and the snazzy look is obviously the main appeal here.

The two carbon fiber Bailouts also bring two new steels into the Bailout retinue. Buyers have their choice between M390 and S90V. M390 pops up everywhere these days, and is well-loved for its high edge retention and ability to ward off rust. S90V is also popular, although arguably a bit more specialized: its edge retention is legendary, and rewards users with some deeper sharpening know-how.

The new Bailouts are Bail-Out now.
