I’m the type who always has a knife within reach—whether I’m dialing in a scope at the range, pitching a tent in the backcountry, trekking a muddy trail, or wrestling with a project in the garage for hours, I’ll typically have some sort of blade within arm’s reach. Is it because I’m paranoid? No. Rather, I just know knives come in handy in a lot of ways throughout the day, so it’s best to always have one available should the need arise. In a more serious context, a reliable and sharp blade is also important for your safety and efficiency, no matter the task. I recently got the opportunity to try out the Muddy SWAP Replace-A-Blade Knife. I’ve seen these things advertised on the internet for a while and ever since I first heard of them, I was intrigued. Now, after giving it a solid run, over the last few months, I’ve got plenty to say—it’s earned a place in my gear, but it’s not without a few quirks, and it may not be the perfect blade for everyone. Today I’ll tell you why.
Muddy is one of the score or so of brands under what had been the GSM group (Which includes Cold Steel, SOG, and Camillus). I assume they are still a part of that conglomerate. (Click the link at the bottom of this post for more on that)
