Safariland recently launched its latest crop of law enforcement and military rated duty holsters with the introduction of the new Ballast series of duty holsters. This next generation duty holster from Safariland aims to maximize space on an officer’s duty belt while also protecting their side-arm from unauthorized access or the surrounding environment. Although Safariland has traditionally used a thermo-molded material to form the holster bodies of their flagship duty rigs, the Ballast takes a different approach by using an even stronger injection molded polymer material that’s more durable in extreme heat or cold settings without the eventual wear of the traditional thermo-molded material. Ballast holsters still use the classic Safariland 3-hole mounting pattern and are compatible with peripheral accessories like the QLS attachment forks and plates.
Another design goal in the development of the Ballast was mitigation from “forced grabs” by adding the Ingress Guard system. Also onboard is the tried-and-true Safariland ALS locking system, which locks the firearm to the holster. Similar consideration was given to the housing built around the top portion of the slide, in order to protect mounted red-dot sights from the elements or impacts.
