Chiappa Firearms is now selling two modern commemorative versions of the venerable US M1 Carbine. Chiappa only produced 1,945 units of this limited special-edition production run to commemorate 1945, the year that World War II finally ended. These semi-automatic carbines will be available in 9mm or .22LR chamberings.

In addition to the reproduction Chiappa-manufactured M1 Carbines themselves, each customer will also receive a few extras. All Chiappa M1 carbines include a World War II-style canvas carry sling, and all carbine stocks include commemorative embedded eagle coins as well as a commemorative stamped box and certificate of authenticity that match and verify the limited production run. Even the packaging and shipping boxes these carbines get delivered with are inspired by World War II-era packaging.

The .22LR version includes an 18-inch barrel, while the 9mm edition has a 19-inch barrel. Both models have receivers made from alloy steel and the entirety of their assemblies weighs around 5.5 pounds, just like the original .30 caliber M1 Carbine.

The M1 Carbine represents a significant niche in the American military’s small-arms arsenal. Considered the little brother to the .30-’06 Sprg. US M1 Garand, the smaller and lighter M1 carbine shot a .30 caliber rimless and straight-walled cartridge that had significantly less recoil than its bigger brother. The M1 Carbine was developed for US troops who needed something more substantial than an M1911A1 service pistol but for whom the full-size M1 Garand was also a bit much. The servicemen who carried M1 Carbines tended to have combat roles besides being ordinary riflemen, like radio operators, drivers and others. Paratroopers, commandos and other soldiers who really depended on being highly mobile also took a liking to this light carbine due to its extreme portability.
