What if you could get an e-bike with automotive-grade electronics and software? That’s the promise made by mobility startup Also.

It’s a company that was created as a spinoff of electric truck and SUV company Rivian. Like Rivian, it has developed its own motors, batteries, and software. The Also TM-B e-bike has features you expect from a car, not something you pedal yourself and can park in your front hall instead of needing a garage.

Rivian-Inspired DreamRide Electric Drive

Also’s biggest feature is its DreamRide drive setup. With most e-bikes, you get a motor either in the rear hub or attached to the bottom bracket and driving the crank. Either way, there is a mechanical connection between your foot on the pedal and the rear wheel.

The DreamRide system removes that connection. It still has pedals, but instead of spinning gears and then tires, they turn a generator and send power to the battery. All drive comes from the motor, which, Also says, makes the ride smoother. Think of it like an extended-range EV, where the engine (in this case, you) spins at an efficient speed and load to save energy.

Two modes called “transmission styles” make it sound even more EREV-like. The first is called Auto, which lets you pick a cadence and stick with it. Motor output and generator input will adapt to help you hold that pedal speed. The second is called Manual, which uses software to create gears and feels more like a regular multi-speed bike. The rear wheel is belt-driven, with a Gates drive system and 62-tooth rear sprocket.

Up to 137 Lb.-Ft., 10x Pedal Assist

The Class 3 e-bikes can throttle up to 20 mph, where allowed, for cruising without pedaling, and up to 28 mph when you are pedaling. The standard bike has a 5x pedal assist ratio with 10x for the Launch and Performance versions. It delivers 137 pound-feet of torque, double what most e-bikes can manage.

Also calls its battery “vehicle-grade technology.” There will be two packs: a standard 538Wh unit that can deliver 60 miles of range, and a large pack that holds 808 Wh and can manage up to 100 miles. USB-C fast charging at up to 240 W means 0% to 80% for the small battery in a couple of hours, and the large pack takes 2.5 hours.

On-Screen Nav and Proximity Locks

The company’s Portal display helps to really set it apart. The Portal screen is a 5.0-inch digital dash mounted in the stem. It works with an app on your phone to give you navigation, media-player display, and the ability to make and receive calls. It also gives you something quite special: proximity key locking.

Use the Portal app, and the bike will unlock when you approach or lock when you walk away. The battery, back wheel, and frame lock automatically, just like proximity access in a car. The system will send you real-time tamper alerts and the exact bike location. The app will also let you sync up with fitness apps.

Also is making the TM-B flexible. You can configure it with a standard seat, add a utility rack to the rear to make it a cargo bike, or pick a bench seat option thanks to a modular top frame. The bike has integrated front and rear LED lighting and will also integrate with the lights in the company’s new Alpha Wave helmet.

The helmet comes with an integrated audio system with four speakers and two noise-canceling mics so you can listen to tunes or podcasts or take calls on the go.

Limited Launch Edition models will be the first to hit the road. They’re $4,500 and come with the Performance features plus a special color scheme. Shipping is set for spring 2026.

TM-B Performance models are the same price, including the large battery and air suspension front and rear, with shipping in the first half of 2026.

A standard Also TM-B e-bike will arrive later in 2026 with the smaller battery, a coil front fork, and a price set to start under $4,000. Reservations are open now.
