Aside from the bike, the two most important pieces of gear any mountain biker wears are their shoes and a helmet. Ride Concepts has been making bike shoes since 2018. In that time, it’s carved out a reputation for high-performance, bike-specific footwear. Today, the brand known for its shoes leaps head-first into the helmet game.

On May 22, Ride Concepts launches its first two mountain bike (MTB) helmets. The XC-focused Deploy and gravity/enduro-minded Dissent are available on the brand’s website now.

“Whether it’s hitting all-day trail loops or dropping into full-gas enduro descents, these helmets deliver premium protection, bold style, and rider-first comfort,” the brand said in a press release. “Lightweight, fully featured, and ready to send.”

Each of the new half-lid helmets is designed for specific riders and types of riding. However, both helmets feature a micro-adjust fit system, MIPS Evolve Core Technology, reflective webbing, and a multi-position visor with a goggle stow.

Pictured in green, the Deploy Helmet ($140) is made with cross-country (XC) and Trail riders in mind. It has 16 vents and in-mold EPS construction with a full polycarbonate shell for durability. Ride Concepts recommends this helmet for anyone riding a sub-140mm travel bike.

The brand said the Deploy is ideal for “riders chasing singletrack miles, backcountry loops, or daily trail therapy.”

Second in the lineup is Ride Concepts’ Dissent Helmet ($190), for enduro, all-mountain, and gravity riders. It has 15 vents, a Fidlock magnetic snap buckle, quick-release strap adjusters, anti-odor comfort pads, and a Link mount on the visor. This helmet is recommended for riders on bikes with more than 140mm of travel.

According to Ride Concepts, this helmet is for “pushing hard through chunky lines, race stages, and lift-served chaos.”

Ride Concepts is a family-owned brand based out of Reno, Nev. The founders are all bikers, and, like many outdoor brands, it started because they wanted bike shoes that fit better and performed at a more technical level. So they started making them.

While GearJunkie has yet to test one of Ride Concepts’ helmets, if they’re made with the same attention to detail as the brand’s shoes, they’re probably some lux lids. The brand’s footwear utilizes proprietary grip structures, impact-absorbing technology, BOA dials, recycled materials, welded seams, the works. It even offers rider-specific sizing and flex options for all its bike shoes.

Mountain bikers should take note. At $140 for the Deploy and $190 for the Dissent, they’re very competitively priced helmets. Compared to those on GearJunkie’s guide to the Best Mountain Bike Helmets, they fall on the less expensive end of the spectrum.
