Phil Robertson, the founder of Duck Commander and the central figure in the hit reality television series Duck Dynasty, has died at the age of 77. His family confirmed that he passed away peacefully in West Monroe, La.

A Life Rooted in the Outdoors

Born in 1947 in Vivian, La., Phil Robertson grew up in a large, working-class family. He developed a deep connection to the outdoors early in life. Hunting, fishing, and living off the land became central parts of his identity.

Robertson played college football at Louisiana Tech University and was the starting quarterback ahead of Terry Bradshaw. Despite the potential for a professional football career, he declined the opportunity, choosing instead to pursue a quieter life focused on his values and the natural world.

The Birth of Duck Commander

In 1972, Robertson founded Duck Commander, a company built on his own design for duck calls. He started the business in a small shed behind his home, where he handcrafted each call with meticulous care. His commitment to quality and authenticity helped the company grow into a respected name in the hunting industry.

Duck Commander expanded over the decades, becoming a trusted brand among waterfowl hunters across the country. The business remained family-run, with Phil’s sons taking on leadership roles as the company scaled up.

National Fame Through ‘Duck Dynasty’

In 2012, the Robertson family became the focus of the A&E reality series Duck Dynasty. The show followed their daily lives and the operations of Duck Commander. It featured hunting, family life, and strong expressions of Christian faith.

Duck Dynasty quickly became one of the most-watched reality shows on television. At its peak, it drew millions of viewers and brought national attention to the Robertson family’s values and lifestyle.

Phil Robertson’s outspoken nature and traditional beliefs sometimes drew controversy, but he remained steadfast in his views. He continued to be a vocal advocate for Christianity and conservative values throughout his life.

A Lasting Legacy

Phil Robertson leaves behind a lasting legacy in both the hunting and entertainment worlds. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Marsha Kay “Miss Kay” Robertson, their children, including Willie Robertson, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beyond the success of Duck Commander and Duck Dynasty, Robertson is remembered for his dedication to faith, family, and the outdoors. He helped introduce millions of people to a way of life grounded in simplicity, self-reliance, and belief in a higher purpose.
