Mystery Ranch turns 25 this year, and to celebrate, it relaunched one of the most popular packs it’s ever made. On Nov. 21, Mystery Ranch announced the limited-run made-in-the-USA Hip Monkey 25 and launched it on its website.

The pack, which has been sold on and off since 2001, has been upgraded with new materials, a retro heritage patch, and the classic Mystery Ranch “Wildfire Black” colorway.

“The Hip Monkey is as recognizably Mystery Ranch as any style we’ve ever made,” Luke Buckingham, director of product and operations at Mystery Ranch, said in a statement. “Its enduring popularity has caused us to bring it back time and again in a variety of textiles and a host of different colors. It continues to be one of our most popular products to this day.”

The 25th anniversary legacy edition of the Hip Monkey is $175 on the brand’s website. It’s expected to sell out fast, so if you want to own a piece of the Mystery Ranch legacy, don’t sleep on this release.

Mystery Ranch said this isn’t some retro-reskin, but a “true heritage piece.” The Hip Monkey 25 uses the brand’s X-Pac waterproof fabric. It has a padded mesh body panel, a nylon web grab handle, compression straps, and both an internal and external pocket. The silhouette is based on the original version from 2001.

At 490 cubic inches of volume (~8 L), it’s large enough for most day hiking or biking adventures.

To honor the original version of the Hip Monkey, Mystery Ranch even added a splash of retro flair. “We designed a special ‘Still Works’ Mystery Ranch patch, which is a throwback to the original logo,” Buckingham said.

All components for the Hip Monkey 25 were also made in the USA.

More than all of the technical specs and manufacturing details, the Hip Monkey is an homage to the brand’s history. Founded in Bozeman, Mont., in 2000, Mystery Ranch has been making bomber outdoor equipment for a quarter of a century. It was acquired by Yeti in 2024, but has continued to design the same high-quality equipment based on our experiences. This Hip Monkey 25 pack celebrates that legacy.
