Every year, established pros and up-and-coming athletes descend upon Jackson Hole, Wyo., for one of the highest-profile freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions in the world. The Kings & Queens of Corbet’s is renowned for the hype it generates. And it’s officially kicking off at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort today, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. MST.
The competition is separated into four categories: men’s and women’s skiing, and men’s and women’s snowboarding. Athletes are judged on the tricks they throw, their line selection, and their flow throughout the course. At the end of the week, only two of the four top competitors will be crowned the 2025 King and Queen.
This year, there’s prize money on the line, too. For the first time in the competition’s history, there will be awards for first place ($5,000), second place ($3,000), and third place ($2,000), as well as a $5,000 bonus to the King and Queen.
Last year, the competition was canceled due to a lack of snow. This year, 24 athletes are competing in the Kings & Queens VI competition — and some of them are defending titles. Below, you’ll find more details on the competition, how to watch it, and who is competing.
Kings & Queens VI: Details and How to Watch
The last time this competition happened was in 2023; that year, the event was not live-streamed. If you wanted to see the Kings & Queens competition, you needed to be at Jackson Hole. This time around, though, they’re broadcasting the event once again.
Tune into Jackson Hole’s YouTube page if you want to watch the competition live, or check out the Jackson Hole’s Kings & Queens webpage.
If you’re in the Wyoming area and want to watch it live, Tensleep Bowl is the place to do it. You can find directions on how to get there on the Jackson Hole website. There will also be numerous watch parties hosted around town.
There will also be opportunities for viewers and spectators to vote on their favorite athletes. While the official judges are responsible for crowning the King and Queen, the People’s Choice Award always highlights a fan-favorite athlete. And, of course, other awards are often given, like the “Tomahawk King” (which Parkin Costain won in 2023).
This year, Colby Stevenson, the reigning King from 2023, is returning to defend his crown. In 2023, Stevenson blew spectators away, busting a massive and flawless switch-five rodeo on his first run. He followed that up with a switch dub nine that he just slightly overthrew (video above). However, his first run had been impressive enough that the crown was his.
Other Athletes on the Roster
Stevenson isn’t the only heavy hitter who will be competing at Corbet’s Couloir this week. Wyatt Gentry is a skier from Victor, Idaho, who started skiing when he was a preschooler at Jackson Hole. Piper Kunst is another athlete to keep your eyes on. Hailing from South Park, Colo., the big mountain and freeride skier earned the title of Queen of Corbet’s back in 2021.
On the snowboarding side of things, there’s Japan’s Yuki Kadono, a six-time X Games medalist. Kadano landed the first-ever back-to-back 1620 in Kings & Queens competition history.
Windham Miller is also returning for his second Kings & Queens competition. The all-terrain snowboarder comes from Vail, Colo., and has been on snowboards since the ripe age of 3 years old.
