Canada has fired back at recent U.S. trade actions by imposing a steep 25% retaliatory tariff on American fishing rods, nets, hooks, lines, and other tackle, effective as of March 13, 2025.
This latest development comes as trade tensions continue to escalate following the Trump administration’s implementation of a 25% tariff on aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. These tariffs significantly impact fishing reels and accessories due to their aluminum components.
According to the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the U.S. imports roughly 60% of its fishing equipment, with two-thirds originating from China.
