Airstream has a new model for shoppers looking to get a travel trailer for the first time. The new Airstream World Traveler is a 22-foot model that the company says is the lightest in class. It will come with a lower price and a more crossover-friendly size than its siblings, but it will still have their look and feel.

Light, Lithe, Ready for Action

At 3,700 pounds empty and with a 4,500-pound maximum weight, the World Traveler 22RB can be towed by plenty of smaller crossovers and SUVs. It isn’t just light, though; it’s also aerodynamic. The sleek shape is combined with a 7-foot width, based on models that Airstream sells in the rest of the world. The smaller area helps reduce the amount of effort required to drag it down the highway.

Despite that size, it comes with an 80×80 bed. That’s larger than a king-size mattress, but it’s a little more complicated. The bed has a notch, so Airstream calls it a V-shape twin bed. If there are two of you with your heads at the rear bulkhead, your feet will be about 30 degrees apart. Or for a less intimate experience, put your heads away from the wall, and it’ll be your feet getting cozy.

Plenty of Floor Space, 2-Room Bath

The layout leaves more floor space — room to move around, and to access the whole kitchen and closet that are right beside the bed. The V isn’t completely open, so you can still use it as a comfortable lounge space.

At the front of the camper, the dinette can also transform into a bed or a sofa. There’s also a two-piece bathroom. Even with the small size, you don’t have to shower in the same room as the flush.

Optional extras include a drawer cooler and a microwave. And there are two different interior colors available.

Tech features start with a 24-inch smart TV and a JBL audio system. A ducted AC and Truma Combi eco plus heat and hot water system are standard, and the World Traveler has a two-burner propane stove and a 3.1-cubic-foot fridge.

Available upgrades include a 300W prewired solar panel system along with a 2.5kWh lithium battery package. That’s plenty for extending off-grid stays for those not sure how much time they want to spend in the great outdoors.

With a starting price of $68,300, the new World Traveler isn’t quite the cheapest Airstream model. However, it’s not much more than a Bambi model, which starts at $67,400 and is only 16 feet long. To get a 22-footer in that model raises the price to $77,300.

The Airstream World Travel is on sale now. You can expect it at dealers soon. Its first public appearance is this week at the Florida RV Supershow.
