Land Rover wants to make the Defender Octa even meaner. The 626-horsepower twin-turbo V8, raised air suspension, and 2.7-inch-wider track might have you feeling supersonic, but they just weren’t enough to help make it the “toughest, most capable, and most luxurious” Defender. What is an off-road company to do to make its top-spec SUV tougher?

Create the 2026 Defender Octa Black with more black trim, of course. Loads of it, with a mix of gloss and satin finishes.

Oh, and have them shuttle around two rock star brothers who are as likely to fight each other as to end up on stage.

Is This the Ultimate Octa? Definitely Maybe

Yes, this is basically an appearance package. Land Rover has reskinned “as many as 30 exterior elements” in a mix of gloss black and satin black. While that sounds incredibly unharmonious, the finishes aren’t chosen at random. It all works together.

The ubiquitous black trim package upgrade might be so passé that even the Toyota Prius has a Nightshade variant, but we have to admit it can still transform a car when done well.

The changes run from front to rear, starting with the satin powder-coated front undershield and the rear scuff plates. The recovery eyes are also matte, with the tow hook cover up front and the surround for the quad pipes at the back are shiny.

There are even blackened parts you might never see, including the covers for the exhaust system resonator and muffler.

Blacked-Out Interior, Too

Then there’s matching black inside. Ebony semi-aniline leather with inserts from Danish textile company Kvadrat covers the Performance Seats. They get a special perforation pattern for the Defender Octa Black, as well as new stitching details.

The cross-car beam up front is also finished in a satin black powder coat, but this is where Land Rover’s custom options start. You can get that beam and some of the other interior trim parts covered in a chopped carbon fiber finish. For a bit more customization, you can also pick from multiple wheel and paint finish options.

JLR’s Masterplan: Give the People What They Want

Land Rover made this because it’s how customers were already spec’ing out their Defenders. “We know our clients love giving their Defenders all-black finishes,” said Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender. “So our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface.”

Then there is the band. The Defender Octa Black is JLR’s rock star, with more presence than any other Land Rover. So, Land Rover has partnered with the mercurial British band Oasis. Oasis has reunited and plans to spend much of this year on tour, covering 41 dates in 10 countries.

The Defender Octa Black will be the official transport for Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel on the tour. Hopefully, they’ll be in two different rigs if they want the tour to go to plan. This is the first tour for the legendary band since Noel left in 2009 after getting sued by Liam, saying, “I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

No word on pricing for the 2026 Defender Octa Black, or availability, just yet. But maybe today is gonna be the day that your dealer gets one back to you. Anyway, here’s Wonderwall.
