Military historians, professionals, and strategists attributed U.S. military victories in World Wars I and II to two basic points: 1) The U.S. possessed deeper industrial capacity to support the war, and 2) As a result of American cultural norms and values, U.S. Soldiers were better prepared to outthink their adversaries.(1) While these variables’ impact on American success in the World Wars is debatable, the discussion frames a larger, crucial question for the U.S. Army: What should the Army focus on to remain the dominant land force in future wars? The Army, along with other elements of the U.S. government, continually…

The first Ozark Trail knife was an experiment in limbo pricing (how low can you go?) and sourcing real knife components. This knife, which has no official name — hence the “Ozark Trail Tanto” — is not just a daring loss leader, it is also an outstanding and cohesive piece, a knife with real chops. At $20 plus tax, you get a knife with the best non-powder metal steel on the planet. When you pair that with great ergonomics, good materials, and an interesting colorway, the Ozark Trail Tanto looks like the very best knife for the money available in 2025. …

Taurus USA keeps expanding its Raging Hunter Revolver portfolio with new models and chamberings. The latest variant to join its ranks is the new Taurus Raging Hunter chambered for the straight-walled .350 Legend cartridge.  “Adding .350 Legend to the Raging Hunter lineup was a natural step. By Richard Johnson Posted in #Gear We need to talk about stopping power because there’s a lot of garbage floating around. Misinformation that might get you hurt. Or worse, make you overconfident in your carry gun’s ability to end a fight instantly. Let me clear something up right now. Medical professionals experienced in evaluating gunshot wounds often cannot distinguish between wound paths from common handgun calibers during surgery or autopsy. That’s from the FBI’s own ballistic research. Not internet forum experts. Not gun shop commandos. Actual doctors. So, when someone starts going on about how their .45…

A few weeks after standing idle at the SEMA show, Toyota lit the ignition on the Scion 01 Concept at the ceremony of the updated proving grounds in Arizona. I saw it blast down a dusty red carpet of sorts before parking under a tent. Idle again, Don Federico, Vice President of Vehicle Performance Development at Toyota, stood next to it and offered a lot more detail about this side-by-side concept. Off-the-Shelf Powertrain Mounted behind the second row sits the Tacoma hybrid powertrain, the more powerful of the two offered on the midsize pickup. Using a turbocharged 2.4L inline-four and…

To remain sharp over the decades I attend about two or three classes a year from a vetted Grandmaster or tactics instructor. It’s great being a student for a change as I enjoy learning, especially the nuances from the masters who have been there, done that, have the t-shirts and the shorts. You can usually find a very skilled operator who is a true master at his craft, but not the best at passing it forward. Conversely you also find a great teacher who maybe hasn’t checked as many boxes. It’s a rare find when you have the training opportunity…

Throwing a can on your .308 AR may be easy, but getting it to run reliably isn’t always. Here we show you how to troubleshoot your suppressed AR-10.Building a basic AR-15 isn’t much more difficult than assembling IKEA furniture. You’ll need some hand tools, patience, and will have to refer to instructions the first few times, but it’s relatively tough to screw up if you’re mechanically proficient. Most parts fit together interchangeably, and if you run into a problem, it’s easy to find recommended solutions. The AR-10, however, is a different beast.Unlike Eugene Stoner’s 5.56x45mm golden child, the AR-10 wasn’t…

“Nuts!” a Christ Story One of my favorite Christmas tales comes from the Battle of the Bulge. December 22 1944 – Encircled by German forces at the Battle of the Bulge, the 101st Airborne Division, under acting commander Brigadier General McAuliffe received a message from German General Heinrich Freiherr von Lüttwitz delivered under flag of truce. To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne. The fortune of war is changing. This time the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. More German armored units have crossed the river Our near Ortheuville,…

I’m all about carrying a belt knife out hiking and exploring most of the time. In the colder months, I wear one all the time. I’m not sure if it’s because I subconsciously think I will need to fend for myself against a legion of ice monsters destined to take over our planet, or not. However, consciously, I know that my life in the outdoors in the winter is more demanding, and I find myself outdoors all the time in winter. That being the case, I was looking for something burly but compact to carry as I embraced the colder…
