HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. —   The 1st Special Operations Wing introduced a new 30 mm ammunition-linking machine at Hurlburt Field on April 21, 2026, an innovation set to save the Air Force millions by repurposing rounds from retiring A-10 Thunderbolt IIs for use on AC-130J Ghostriders.  The initiative stems from the planned future retirement of the A-10, which will leave millions of 30 mm rounds without an assigned platform. American Prairie has already been fighting the federal government over its bison grazing permits. Now, a separate fight over Montana state trust lands has handed the nonprofit a temporary win. Lewis and Clark County District Court Judge Christopher Abbott granted the nonprofit’s request for a preliminary injunction on Friday, June 26. Recreational anglers in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina were supposed to start a 62-day Atlantic red snapper season today. But a May court order, followed by NOAA’s June 29 rescission of the state permits, kept the opener from happening. For now, recreational red snapper harvest in South Atlantic federal waters remains closed.
