Stoeger Industries has unveiled the new Stoeger M3000 Tactical, a 12 gauge shotgun outfitted with black polymer furniture that cycles shotshells using the inertia-driven Benelli-style action. These action, which is reliable and runs cleanly, use few moving parts and can cycle virtually all shotgun ammunition as long as it is rated with a muzzle velocity of over 1200 feet per second, which applies to most slug and defensive buckshot on the market. Because the new Stoeger M3000 Tactical is meant to serve as a tactical shotgun, it’s outfitted with an 18.5-inch barrel and has a pedestal for its front sight…

I’m off-route while wearing the Fjällräven Vidda Pro Ventilated Trousers on a 4-day backpacking trip in the Colorado Rockies. I’ve been bushwhacking for hours through brutal terrain. Thick willows keep smacking me in the face. Thorny bushes (wild rose?) keep snagging on my jacket and pants. The rocky surface below my feet is unstable, and I’ve fallen more than a few times.  When I emerge from the madness, I am surprised that my pants are not torn to shreds. Somehow, the Fjällräven Vidda Pro Ventilated Trousers ($180) are a bit dirty but fully intact. My face and down jacket have…

By Massad Ayoob We’ve all heard the saying “the devil is in the details.” At least sometimes, we have to balance that with the words of the great architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe: “God is in the details. It’s true in a lot of things, and it’s certainly true in shooting. Let’s look at one such detail: the exact placement of finger on trigger. Four different police departments in Connecticut have recently fielded the Heckler & Koch USA HK VP9. They include the Connecticut State Capitol Police in Hartford, CT, the Brookfield Police, Clinton Police and New Haven Police. In total, these contracts account for nearly 200 new VP9 pistols in service with Connecticut law enforcement officers. “These departments were looking for a safe, reliable pistol at a level that our competitors simply do not offer,” said H&K Law Enforcement sales manager Jason Whitten. “The NATO AC225 testing we subject all of our products to, along with NIJ certification, carried a lot of weight…

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is pointing to media hypocrisy in its reporting of at least ten attacks involving knives or hatchets, most of them fatal, yet there was not a single mention of “knife violence,” indicating an appalling double-standard in how violent crime involving firearms is routinely portrayed, whether by broadcast or print media. “We checked ten different reports regarding fatal and non-fatal knife attacks, all over the country,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “and not a single report included the term ‘knife violence’ anywhere in the text. Yet pick…

Fans of Gavko production collaborations have been eating good this year, and there’s more to come. A month after the release of the We Knife Co. Epaulette, another Gavko piece is setting forth under the Civivi banner: the reverse tanto EDC Sixgill. Gavac is a versatile designer, capable of working in a lot of different styles and modes, but the Gavko Knives house style is one of sharp angles, imposing geometry, and bold blade shapes. The Sixgill certainly checks the last box but, compared to many other Gavac joints, it’s curvier, smoother, with softer lines. In fact, it looks like…

The recent article regarding the Army’s intent to sole source additional M4 carbines from Colt inspired quite a bit of debate about replacing the gun, or at least modernizing it. As for replacing it, the Army already has a plan, and that is Next Generation Squad Weapons which is the example used in the article from the Army I’m sharing today to explain just a bit of the process to procure a new capability. The image above shows the whole process to get new gear. It’s a multi-year path and is never as simple as going down to Dick’s and…
