US Army to Hold Industry Day for UAS Marketplace Imagine being at a unit and having the ability to purchase a multitude of vetted Uncrewed Aircraft Systems on a marketplace similar to Amazon. That’s just what the Army aims to do in order to get small drones into the hands of every squad by 2026 as well as manage the voracious appetite DoD will have for this game changing technology. The U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Aviation (PEO Aviation), in collaboration with the Project Management Office for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (PM UAS) and Army Contracting Command Redstone (ACC-RSA), has…

Who Cold Skills Group is a Scandinavian company founded by former special operations personnel with decades of combined experience in Arctic warfare, mountain operations, and extreme climate survival. Our team is drawn from Norway and Sweden, and all members are born and raised in the very environments we design for. We are not only veterans of these terrains—we still live and operate here. These are our homelands, and the gear we create reflects our deep personal and professional connection to the North. Cold Skills was recognized early for our innovation and was awarded ‘Company of the Year’ in Karlsborg in…
Spandau brings the rough-and-tumble inertia action to the masses with the S2.Chances are, no matter your geographic point, you live hours—if not minutes—from a spit of land where you can call in or flush out one of the nation’s multitudes of avian game. Even better news: As far as hunting goes, wingshooting is one of the more affordable options on the table.Certainly, you can pay a mint and take the Cadillac route to knock pintails out of the sky. But you needn’t. Over the past couple of decades, the price of decent shotguns has dropped to where they’re only slightly…
New week, new We Knife Co. folder. There are lots of prolific companies out there but very few can keep up with the pace of the We juggernaut. Today we’re taking a look at the Zentron, a techy tanto flipper that comes from the ever-busy in-house design crew. Something about the American tanto shape – with its stark, angular divide between primary and secondary edges – lends itself to the futuristic, technical styles. The Zentron’s blade is a perfect case study in this; it comfortably earns the “mid-size” and “hard use” tags with a 3.48-inch cutting edge. Rendered in perennial…
FORT BELVOIR, Va. (Aug. 11, 2025) — Army researchers are aiming to deliver aided target recognition to unmanned aerial systems, speeding up squad target detection on the battlefield and increasing Soldier lethality. With current systems, Soldiers manually monitor a UAS video feed, searching through large areas of terrain and obstacles for extended periods of time in a quickly moving, dynamic environment. Now, DoD scientists and engineers are integrating autonomy and threat detection to bring new capabilities for small organic Army UAS. The Army’s Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Center and the Defense Advanced Research Projects…
Descending the South Kaibab Trail into the Grand Canyon at sunset is an unforgettable experience. But it’s also a test of nerves, especially when navigating steep, narrow switchbacks with thousands of feet of exposure off one side. I was heading down to meet friends midway through their Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim push, and every step demanded complete focus. That’s when the Salomon X Ultra 5 GTX truly earned my trust. From the first crunch of loose gravel underfoot, these shoes gave me a planted, stable feel that turned sketchy ledges and loose descents into confident strides. Agile yet secure, they let me move…

My wife, Mercedes Lilienthal, and I just got done with a 29-day crossing of the U.S. in a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. We slept on top of it, cooked out of the back of it, and drove the car more than 7,100 miles (and more than 3,100 were off pavement) on the TransAmerica Trail (TAT) from the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina to the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. While we’ve done long-distance travel in unconventional vehicles before, we’d never traveled this long in a car this small. With our modifications, it not only worked, but worked well. The Subaru Crosstrek…
New optic mounts never get the credit they deserve, and most people (myself included) tend to cheap out on them given the chance. But if you have an optic you actually care about, it needs a mount that will keep it secure and on target. Brand new from Midwest Industries Inc. comes the second generation of their quick-detach optic mount! MI sent this out for testing a couple of months ago, and it’s been run hard on a DIY AR-10 ever since. From normal range days to local 2-gun matches to being driven over 1,000 miles from Arizona to Idaho for…
