The Marine Corps has launched a training program to rapidly increase the number of small unmanned aircraft system operators for commercial off-the-shelf attack drones.  The program, announced in Marine Corps administrative message 624/25, addresses a critical need for standardized training as the service integrates new systems, including the Neros Archer first-person-view attack drone and prepares for this significant investment in various drone technologies.   This initiative builds on the service’s success over the past few months scaling FPV attack drones across the Fleet Marine Force. It also aligns directly with War Department plans to field tens of thousands, and then…

Small Wars Journal recently published an article written by Special Warfare CW4 William Bryant. It lays the ground work for an Army SOF initiative to create an IWAR branch within the Army, presumably under their control. My comments below were originally published in Vol 5, Issue 51 of Soldier Systems Weekly. It has been slightly expanded by mentioning the intersection of IW and IW (explained below). You can read CW4 Bryant’s article at smallwarsjournal.com/2025/12/16/transforming-and-modernizing. I’m glad someone finally published something public about this. My critique of the concept casts no aspersions on CW4 Bryant’s paper. I really enjoyed it and…

By Peter Suciu Posted in #History In the collection of the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, is just one of two surviving Junkers Ju 88 airplanes that saw service during the Second World War. Displayed with its Romanian Air Force markings, it is a former long-range, photographic reconnaissance aircraft. It had previously been on display outside with German markings before being restored and repainted with the same insignia it was adorned with during the war. The other intact Ju 88 is now at the Royal Air Force…

I’ve seen long-range shooting referred to as “weaponized math,” and there’s a great deal of truth to that appellation. Whether you hew to milliradians or MOA, there’s math just getting a scope ready to shoot: Torque settings on the mount and on the scope rings, proper leveling of the reticle, making adjustments to zero; there’s a lot of numbers before you even think about “going long.” Bullet-drop-compensating reticles—reticles whose markings represent a drop at a certain distance for a projectile of known weight and velocity—are one way to mitigate the math needed for long range. Some scopes are calibrated so…

Our Nation’s warfighters encounter many known and unknown hazards on the modern battlefield including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Hand-held detection and identification capabilities enhance situational awareness and enable early warning and mitigation, but they can also be time intensive and physiologically burdensome. Additionally, some environments pose too great a risk or are simply inaccessible to warfighters. This is where the use of critical integrated layered CBRN defense assets like autonomous systems comes in. In CBRN defense, an autonomous system refers to a capability that can independently detect, identify, and/or mitigate CBRN threats by leveraging sensors, robotics, artificial…

The price of duck hunting waders is getting out of hand. When SITKA entered the game with a premium wader, it seemed like every manufacturer followed suit with price hikes. Unfortunately, unlike SITKA, most manufacturers weren’t creating a product that justified higher prices. In fact, I’ve been saying for years that outside of the Delta Pros, duck hunting wader manufacturers are light years behind their fishing counterparts. Most options look, feel, and perform like junk made in China. Yet, duck hunters were still stuck with a higher bill. My tin foil hat theory is that brands decided to charge more…

This year marks the official 20th anniversary of King of the Hammers (KoH), an off-road racing extravaganza that takes place each year in Johnson Valley, Calif. Perhaps most famous for spawning Ultra4 vehicles built for the gnarliest four-wheeling. KoH also includes high-speed desert running in trophy trucks, UTVs, and motorcycles — but rocks are always part of the equation. Every year, the crowds get bigger and bigger, to the point that a makeshift “Hammertown” sprouts up in the desert. It’s almost akin to a Burning Man, only for off-road culture, not transcendental business bros turned Ketamine hipsters for a week.…

The beast is back. Ram Trucks has just made the return of its TRX official, but this isn’t the same truck as before. It has evolved, with a new supercharged Hemi V8 that makes it the most powerful production pickup ever. The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX has one heck of a name, but it’s also going to have one heck of a price tag. 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX Stomps on Ford Raptor Ram and SRT boss Tim Kuniskis isn’t holding back on his excitement for the new truck. “Bringing back the nameplate isn’t enough. Ram set the bar…
