By Dan Abraham Posted in #Guns The Springfield Armory Echelon is not one of the market’s best 9mm, polymer-frame, striker-fired handguns. It is the best. Springfield designed the Echelon from the ground up to create a handgun the shooting world needed — even if they didn’t know it at the time. I’ve been a big fan from the start, and I have extensive experience with both the full-size Echelon 4.5F and the compact Echelon 4.0C. I will state, with confidence, that Springfield Armory created a “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) pistol. The ergonomic Adaptive Grip Texture feels like…
For decades, it was America’s family hauler of choice. Now, is the station wagon dead in the U.S.? Volvo, a brand that has championed the longroof for almost its entire existence, is now out of the game. And that can’t be a good sign for the cargo-friendly car. 73 Years of Swedish Wagons Volvo’s first wagon was called the Duett, and it launched in 1953. It was meant to be used as a delivery van by day and a family car on the weekend, and it became such a Swedish icon that it got its own stamp. The automaker’s final…
Tier-one shooters worldwide know that speed is nothing more than a byproduct of efficiency, and that accuracy is a byproduct of control. Anyone who earnestly trains to be a better on-demand shooter can attest that developing optimal efficiency and control is not as easy as it sounds. One of the most overlooked training elements of developing such elite shooting skills is self-diagnostics. When it comes to mastering true self-diagnostics, most shooters don’t know what they don’t know. Where do you even start? What do you look for? How do you know exactly what needs to be remediated? How do you…

With its beefy, sometimes serrated tanto blade, anodized aluminum handles and glass breaker, the tough-as-nails Bailout has always come off as the rough-and-tumble Bugout stepbrother you’re secretly kind of hoping doesn’t make it home for the holidays. But then Benchmade introduced a version that cleans up nice, dropping the price (by a hundo) and weight while swapping tactical features for practical EDC ones that had us reaching for it over the Bugout time and again. I love that description of the Bailout. It is a great knife, but the Bugout is superlative, and I haven’t spend as much time as…
Passing into the realm of the up-there requires not only a mindset change but also a good change of clothing. Waterproof, burly, and breathable, the best hardshell jackets provide it all for your next foray into mountaineering, backcountry skiing, alpine climbing, or just downright miserable weather. After many seasons spent above treeline, I winnowed my closet down to the most capable shells on the market in 2026. Included are jackets for every alpine mission, from burly alpine armor like my top pick, the Arc’teryx Beta AR, to budget-minded shells like the Patagonia M10 Storm that will get you in and…
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army has established a new career pathway for officers to specialize in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), formally designating the 49B AI/ML Officer as an official area of concentration. It advances the Army’s ongoing transformation into a data-centric and AI-enabled force. Full implementation of the new career field will be phased. The first selection of officers will occur through the Army’s Volunteer Transfer Incentive Program (VTIP) beginning January 2026. The officers will be reclassified by the end of fiscal year 2026. “This is a deliberate and crucial step in keeping pace with present and future…
By GunSpot Posted in #Skills What if the situation arises where you need to shoot a target off-hand from a standing position over several hundred yards? Would you be able to do it? If it does, GunSpot has got you covered. What if you have to take a long-range shot off-hand and do not have a rest or cannot go prone? In the early 90s, Grant competed in the USMC shooting competitions and he used a couple techniques to be effective shooting off-hand over distance. We detail the stances and ways of holding a rifle to accomplish this…
