The Odyssey may be the epic on everybody’s mind currently, but Boker is getting ready to release a folding knife treat for Lord of the Rings fans out there. The Inarsil is named, and takes its visual inspiration from, a key character in that book’s legendry.

Quick history lesson, because this is important. If you know anything about fantasy realms, you know that named blades and generally magical weapons almost always play a crucial role in events. And when it comes to famous swords in Middle-Earth, perhaps none can rival Narsil. This longsword cleaved the One Ring from Sauron’s hand in the War of the Last Alliance – and many years later, its shards were reforged into Anduril, the sword of none other than Aragorn, otherwise known as the ranger Strider. We’ll leave the details of what Aragorn did with his EDC for you to discover.

Jörg Sprave designed Inarsil in such a way that it channels the look of Anduril/Narsil into a modern, albeit quite large folder. Nobody would call Inarsil a sword, but, with a 4.68-inch blade, it certainly comes in well above the standard range for a daily carry piece (not that we would blame you for toting it around). The sword-like blade, although it has much in common with dagger profiles, is not double-ground; a single live edge will do all the cutting work on this bad boy. Due to ongoing shortages in Elven blade steel, Boker pivoted to a tried-and-true formula instead for the Inarsil: D2.

Meanwhile the handle, with its black ridged G-10 grip area and flared pommel, is a dead ringer for Anduril’s movie design. Something that you won’t see on the fixed blade Anduril, but will see here, is the liner lock under the hood. Last but not least, you might be wondering if the Inarsil has a clip – and no, it doesn’t, but given its size and total weight of 15.24 oz., that’s probably for the best. This will probably only be carried on special occasions or on real quests to save the world.

The Inarsil will be available in November.
