This spring, climbers in Colorado have an opportunity to hunt for hidden treasure at some of the state’s favorite climbing areas. Starting on March 28, the Front Range Golden Carabiner Hunt is on! With three separate events in three separate locations, climbers will have multiple opportunities to score free gear — and at the same time, raise money for local climbing organizations.

It’s a rock climbing scavenger hunt. The rules are simple: Register online, find the hidden golden carabiners, and redeem them for Black Diamond prizes. Tickets can be purchased online, and all proceeds will be split among the Access Fund, the Boulder Climbing Community, and the Pikes Peak Climbers Association.

Black Diamond (BD), Neptune Mountaineering, Mountain Chalet, and Bentgate Mountaineering are hosting the event. Enter with a partner and head for the hills for your chance to win some sweet new climbing schwag.

Front Range Golden Carabiner Hunt: When & Where

The Front Range Golden Carabiner Hunt kicks off the weekend of March 28 at Shelf Road near Cripple Creek, Colo. Participants will pick up their clue sheet at 8 a.m. at Mountain Chalet in Colorado Springs.

The following weekend, on April 5, the hunt moves on to Clear Creek Canyon outside of Golden, Colo. Clue sheets will be available at Bentgate Mountaineering starting at 8 a.m.

Finally, the third scavenger hunt takes place in Boulder Canyon west of Boulder, Colo., on April 11. Clue sheets will be available at Neptune Mountaineering at 8 a.m.

Route grades where the carabiners will be hidden range from 5.6 to 5.12. If you find a golden carabiner, take a photo and return to the location where you picked up your clue sheet to redeem it for two gear prizes that you get to select. BD requests that all partners carpool together to save parking space at the crags. While only two prizes will be awarded per team, teams are not limited to just two people.

Following the Boulder Canyon Golden Carabiner Hunt, there will be a finale party from 5 to 8 p.m. at Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder.
