  • A 15-year old in Nevada has been charged with possession of a visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a child, online records show
  • The teen suspect is a golf champion and class president, 8 News Now reported
  • The sexual assault in the videos is said to have been recorded on a school field trip to Costa Rica in April 2025

A 15-year-old in Nevada has been charged after authorities allege that the teen recorded the sexual assault of a 14-year-old classmate on his phone camera while on a class trip.

The teen has been charged with possession of a visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a child, and authorities allege that the videos depict a sexual assault, according to local news outlets.

Online records reviewed by PEOPLE show that the teen was indicted earlier this month, following an incident in which he allegedly recorded a group of eighth graders sexually assaulting another student during a field trip to Costa Rica in April 2025, per 8 News Now.

The 15-year-old is a golf champion and class president, 8 News Now reported. Online records viewed by PEOPLE show that they posted bail in the amount of $20,000 and were released.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, citing prosecutors, the accused’s face can be seen in a two-minute and 16-second video captured on a cell phone, in which the camera switches from the front-facing view to the rear camera. After the camera switches to the phone’s rear camera, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report alleges that the video “depicts the graphic and violent sexual assault” of a victim who was 14 years old at the time of the incident.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld, and J. Randall Jones said, “We represent the victim in this matter and appreciate the work that has been done by law enforcement, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s office.”

“We are confident that the judicial system will render justice for our clients,” the statement continued.

It is unclear if the three other boys identified in the videos will be charged. Two of the students are no longer enrolled in the Clark County School District, per 8 News Now.

PEOPLE reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Clark County District Attorney’s office, and the accused’s attorney for comment.

Joshua Judd, the attorney for the defendant, told 8 News Now that “We are concerned about what is clearly disparate treatment between how [the defendant] is being treated compared to other, similarly situated, individuals.”

“Nonetheless, we look forward to defending [the accused] in this case,” he continued.

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, please contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or go to rainn.org.
