NEED TO KNOW

  • Police in a western Chicago suburb said a woman was found dead in her home after her husband called 911
  • The husband called police after seeing home surveillance footage that appeared to show his wife’s ex-husband chase her into their garage
  • The Oswego Police Department said they took the suspect into custody but have not yet identified him or his alleged victim

Police in a Chicago suburb found a woman dead inside her home on Tuesday after her husband called 911 and said he saw a home surveillance feed that appeared to show his wife’s ex chasing her into their garage.

In a press release Wednesday, the Oswego Police Department said responding officers found the woman “unresponsive” inside her home shortly after 1 p.m. local time and paramedics soon pronounced her dead at the scene.

“The caller reported that he believed his wife was in danger after observing, via home surveillance, a male subject run after his wife into their garage,” said the police in Oswego, located roughly 50 miles west of Chicago. “The caller believed the male to be the wife’s ex-husband.”

About a half-hour after finding the woman dead, Oswego Police took the suspect into custody once an officer spotted his car driving down a nearby road.

“The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Oswego Police Department, where he is still in custody,” police said.

Oswego Police did say Wednesday that the “preliminary investigation indicates the suspect followed the victim into the garage and attacked her.”

Police also noted that an autopsy would be performed Thursday by the Kendall County Coroner’s Office “to determine the cause and manner of death.”

“Information related to the victim is not being released at this time,” police added, noting that the alleged homicide was “an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.”
