A longtime high school math teacher and her elderly parents were killed in their Pennsylvania home — and now her brother is charged with their killings.
Police responded to a call for a well-being check at a home on Heather Road in Northampton Township on the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 26, the Northampton Township Police Department said in a statement.
There, officers were confronted by an adult male, later identified as Kevin Castiglia, 55, who was allegedly armed with a knife.
Officers unsuccessfully tried to get him to surrender, but instead, he allegedly barricaded himself inside the home. After a five-hour standoff, tactical officers successfully took the man into custody at 8 p.m.
When officers searched the home, they found the bodies of three people inside.
The victims have been identified as Deborah Castiglia, 53, of Plumstead Township, as well as 84-year-old Judith Castiglia and her husband Fred Castiglia, 90, who lived at the home on Heather Road, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
The killings came to light on Monday afternoon, when Deborah’s boyfriend went to her parents’ house to try to find her, according to an affidavit obtained by 6ABC Action News, the Daily Voice, and NBC 10. He had tried to contact her for several days but she was not responding.
Kevin allegedly answered the door in a robe and told him that Deborah “probably went on vacation,” according to the affidavit.
Moments later, Kevin opened the door with what the boyfriend described as a “Psycho type” chef’s knife in his hand and allegedly said, “Don’t ever come here again, or I will kill you,” the affidavit alleges.
The boyfriend left and called 911. When officers arrived, Kevin came to the door with two knives in his hands and began “talking incoherently,” the affidavit alleges.
When the officers asked him about his family, he allegedly pointed the knives at them.
The officers used their tasers on Kevn, but he pulled the probes out of his body, shut the door and locked it, according to the affidavit.
Authorities eventually busted their way into the home, where they found Kevin barricaded inside a second-floor bedroom.
When they searched the home, they found a woman, believed to be Deborah, dead in the kitchen, while her elderly parents were deceased in another part of the home.

After officers took Kevin into custody and to a local hospital, he allegedly told the doctor, “I hurt someone.”
Later, he allegedly told hospital personnel, “I killed my parents in their sleep” and “I killed my sister when she found them,” according to the affidavit. He allegedly confessed to the crimes again at police headquarters.
He is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another and other alleged crimes, according to the criminal docket.
He is being held without bail as he awaits his next court date on Feb. 12.
Deborah was a longtime math teacher in the Centenniel School District, the Daily Voice reports.
It is unclear whether Kevin has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
