NEED TO KNOW

  • Patrick Clancy has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against some of his wife Lindsay Clancy’s medical providers
  • He filed the lawsuit on behalf of the estates of the couple’s three deceased children – Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan
  • Patrick states in his complaint that his wife was prescribed eight medications in the span of three weeks while trying to deal with anxiety after the birth of their third child

Lindsay Clancy was prescribed at least nine medications in the months before she allegedly strangled her three children to death and then attempted to take her own life.

That is according to a new wrongful death lawsuit filed by her husband, Patrick Clancy, that alleges eight of those medications were prescribed in a span of just three weeks — between Nov. 16, 2022 and Dec. 5, 2022.

Patrick filed the lawsuit against some of his wife’s healthcare providers on behalf of the estates of the couple’s three deceased children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.

He states that Lindsay’s condition deteriorated over time before citing medical records to make the argument that she allegedly killed the three children because she “started hearing a compelling and unrecognizable singular male voice that told her ‘this is your last chance’ and that she had to ‘take them with [her].”

That same voice also “indicated to [Lindsay] that she should die … and that her children would suffer if she was gone,” according to medical records cited in the legal filing.

Lindsay had struggled with returning to work after the births of each of their first two children, according to the complaint, but Patrick recalls things were much worse after the birth of Callan in 2023.

He says that his wife eventually opted to see a psychiatrist who prescribed her Sertraline, also known by the brand name “Zoloft.”

Lindsay did not take the medication for a month, according to Patrick, and once she did, she reported feeling “awful” and started “experiencing insomnia,” the complaint states.

The drug also made her anxiety worse, says Patrick, and after a month of little to no sleep she went to the emergency room where she was prescribed trazodone.

Over the next three weeks, Lindsay would also be prescribed: fluoxetine (“Prozac”); zolpidem tartrate (“Ambien”); mirtazapine (“Remeron”); clonazepam (“Klonopin”); quetiapine fumarate (“Seroquel”); diazepam (“Valium”); and lamotrigine (“Lamictal”).

In the complaint, Patrick accuses his wife’s medical providers of prescribing this “bevy of diverse and powerful medications,” but failing to appropriately monitor her responses to the drugs.

“If Defendants had not acted negligently, and rather had provided adequate care, it is more likely than not that Patrick and Lindsay’s children would still be alive today,” the complaint states.

One of the named defendants is the medical practice where Patrick’s own mother worked, South Shore Health.

They responded to the legal filing in a statement that said: “South Shore Health cares deeply about and prioritizes the safety of our patients and their families and always strives to provide excellent care. Given that this matter is now in litigation, we cannot comment on the specific allegations contained in the lawsuit.”

Lindsay is set to go on trial in July of this year and her defense team has announced their intention to seek an insanity defense, arguing that the mother was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she asked her husband to go pick up dinner for the pair on Jan. 24, 2023.

Patrick returned home 25 minutes later and discovered his wife had jumped out the window of their second-story bedroom.

While he was on the phone with emergency operators, he discovered the couple’s three children had all been strangled with exercise bands, which were tied around their necks.

The two oldest — Cora and Dawson — were pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital, and the youngest, Callan, died a few days later.

Lindsay Clancy Still Suicidal 3 Years After Allegedly Strangling Her 3 Children, Lawyer Says

Patrick has publicly stated that he forgives his wife while urging members of the public to do the same.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, argue that Lindsay carefully planned and plotted before allegedly killing her three children by sending her husband out of the house.

Her trial is now set to start on July 20.
