A woman in England has been charged with murder following the death of her 4-year-old daughter in a house fire.
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that Carrin Wibier, 45 — of Rusholme in the U.K. city of Manchester — had been “charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life” following the death of Lesma-Rose Wibier, 4, on March 2, 2025, per a news release.
Lesma-Rose died following a house fire after emergency services were called to an address in the city, GMP said in a previous release.
Victim Lesma-Rose is the suspect’s daughter, GMP confirmed in an email to PEOPLE.

Following the charges, Wibier made a brief appearance at Manchester Magistrates Court via video link from custody on Wednesday, Jan. 7, per the BBC.
She is being held until Thursday, Jan. 8, when she will appear at Manchester Crown Court, according to the outlet.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed to PEOPLE that a preliminary hearing is set to take place at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday.

Lesma-Rose’s family previously shared an emotional tribute message in a news release posted by police.
The message read, “Lesma-Rose was the star of the family. Anyone who knew her knew she was the most beautiful girl inside and out.”

“She always had a smile on her face and could put the same on others,” the family added.
They continued, “She was such a smart and intelligent girl in her own unique ways, and she will be deeply missed by anyone who was blessed to meet her.”
