  • Deputies were called to Cosmos Taverna, a sports bar and nightclub in the town of Victorville, on Dec. 28
  • D’Shaun Holden, 35, of Adelanto, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene

A shooting in Southern California left a local father dead and another person hospitalized, and authorities said the shooter is still at large.

According to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD), deputies were called to Cosmos Taverna, a sports bar and nightclub in Victorville — a town located about 85 miles outside of Los Angeles — just after 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, Dec. 28.

About 50 to 100 people were gathered in the bar’s parking lot, where deputies found two people with gunshot wounds.

One victim, identified as D’Shaun Holden, 35, of Adelanto, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who was identified only as a 35-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies said the shooter fled the scene before they arrived, and the suspect’s motives are still under investigation.

According to the Victorville Daily Press, Holden was a father of five children and is also survived by his fiancée, parents and siblings.

A GoFundMe page was created to assist Holden’s family with funeral expenses.

“Dee was taken from us far too soon, leaving behind his five children, his fiancée, his mother and father, and his sisters and brothers,” his family wrote on the fundraiser page. “He was truly a family man who would do anything for anyone who asked.”

“To know Dee was to know one of the most genuine and amazing people — he touched so many lives simply by being himself. We are beyond grateful to have had him in our lives,” they added.

The SBCSD has not released information about the shooter’s identity or description, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about the Dec. 28 shooting is urged to call the SBCSD’s Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904, the department said.
