A Missouri man is accused of killing his 81-year-old grandmother and stabbing her two French bulldogs.
Ronald Allred, 37, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action on Monday, Dec. 29 in connection with the death of Fannie Allred. He is also charged with two misdemeanor counts of animal abuse, according to online court records.
St. Louis County police officers responded to the 8500 block of Jenny Drive in St. Louis just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, after Fannie’s daughter discovered her mother “unresponsive and face down on the floor, surrounded by blood,” per a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE.
According to the complaint, Fannie was stabbed six times in the head, neck and chest.
Fannie’s French bulldogs were also stabbed during the attack “but are expected to be OK,” the complaint states.
Allred was seen at the home earlier that morning and had spent the night there, according to the complaint. He fled the scene and was later located at a gas station in the 4500 block of Union Boulevard just after 3 p.m. that afternoon.
Following a two-hour standoff with police, Allred was taken into custody without incident. He additionally faces a charge of resisting arrest.
He later confessed to the stabbings during a police interview, per the criminal complaint.

“She was like the matriarch of the family actually,” Fannie’s son Ronald Allred Jr. told KSDK. “She’s been in her neighborhood 20 plus years so everybody on the block know her, they looked out for her. Walking to and from the store, ‘Hey Ms. Allred.’ She’s just like, what they say, love.”
“One of the most beautiful souls that you would ever come in contact with,” added her son Marvin Allred, according to the outlet. “It was nothing she wouldn’t do for you. This is like a dream/nightmare. Unfortunately, with her being so open hearted, it cost her her life.”
Fannie had worked at Northwest Rehab Center and was a cancer survivor, KSDK reported.
Allred is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26.
