Terrified Teen Girl Tried to Jump Out of Her Ex-Boyfriend's Car — Then He Shot Her, Police Say By Nicole Acosta

A Tennessee teenager was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend while trying to jump out of his car, authorities said.

Taylor ShyAnn Ratterree, a 17-year-old high school senior, was picked up from work by her ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Hunter Jackson, around 8 p.m. on Dec. 16, the Dickson Police Department said, according to KGNS and WSMV.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Dickson Police Department for comment but did not immediately hear back.

When Jackson stopped at a traffic light, investigators say Ratterree attempted to jump out of the car and was then allegedly shot by Jackson, the outlets reported. Ratteree was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police did not say what led to the incident but confirmed Jackson had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the girl’s shooting death. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

On a GoFundMe campaign created to help offset funeral costs, Ratteree’s loved ones remembered her as a “creative soul … who loved music, art, and crocheting.”

“Taylor worked part-time at Kroger, balancing her responsibilities with grace and determination,” the fundraiser reads. “Her life was cut short in a senseless act of violence after her work shift ended.”

The outlets reported that Jackson is being held on $3 million bail.
