TV Sports Reporter and Her Husband Found Dead in Their Home in Apparent 'Murder-Suicide', 3-Year-Old Was Unharmed Inside: Police By Ingrid Vasquez

An Alabama sports reporter and her husband were found dead inside her home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in an apparent murder-suicide, according to WBRC, one of her former employers. A 3-year-old child found at the home was unharmed.

The Hoover Police Department responded to the scene in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court on Dec. 16, police said in a press release.

The Hoover 911 center received a call at about 9:03 a.m., local time, after a family member found the two unresponsive in their home.

Hoover Fire-Medics responded to the residence and pronounced a male and a female deceased from gunshot wounds, according to the Hoover Police Department. Police said a 3-year-old child was also found at the home.

While their identities were not released, WBRC identified the female as its former sports reporter, Christina Chambers. She was a mom to a 3-year-old son, according to the news station.

Chambers and her husband married in 2021, AL.com reported.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Hoover Police Department for comment.

The Hoover Police Department said in its press release that “although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder/suicide and there is no threat to the public related to this case.”

Chambers worked for WBRC from 2015 until July 2021, per the station. She then served as a freelancer during the 2025 football season and worked at Thompson High School from 2021 to early 2025, WBRC reported.

Before joining the WBRC sports team, Chambers was a reporter/anchor at WAKA in Montgomery, Ala. Her extensive sports background began at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Ga., before she joined the regional sports network Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta. She also freelanced in sports for Raycom Media in 2014.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former employee, Christina Chambers. Christina worked for Alabaster City Schools as the director of our Broadcasting Academy,” Alabaster City Schools said in a statement.

“In this role, she led THS TV, sharing her extensive television experience with our students. Christina also used her talents on the sidelines, with live reporting for the Warrior Nation Network on many Friday nights. Our thoughts and prayers are with Christina’s family and all of those impacted by this tragic loss,” the statement continued.

Chambers also worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama recently.

Sophie Martin, Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, remembered Chambers in a statement shared with PEOPLE as a “cherished colleague whose warmth and loving personality touched everyone she worked with.”

“Christina was a source of joy and inspiration to our team and company – she will be greatly missed,” the statement continued.
