A person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd last month.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshal’s Service for the Western District of New York confirmed to PEOPLE that a person of interest was taken into custody on Monday, Dec. 8, by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Task Force Buffalo Division in Amherst.

Charges have yet to be filed, ABC 7 reported, adding that the person of interest is a 20-year-old man from the Bronx.

Boyd, 29, was outside an Asian fusion restaurant with two of his teammates just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16 in New York City when the shooting occurred, the outlet previously reported.

At the time, according to the outlet, authorities believed a suspect possibly tried to steal jewelry from the NFL player before the shooting.

Officers found Boyd with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and he was transported to the nearby Bellevue Hospital in “critical condition.”

Days after the shooting, Boyd shared a photo of himself on Instagram lying down in his hospital bed and appearing to be in good spirits while smiling.

“God is real, God is powerful,” the post read. “I’m sorry I have no words at the moment. Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

According to Jets coach Aaron Glenn, the Nov. 19 post came a few hours after he had spoken to Boyd, who he said was “upbeat” in the conversation, CNN reported. Glenn said Boyd and his wife had recently welcomed a baby, per the outlet.

Boyd has since been released from the hospital and visited the team’s training facility last week in Florham Park, N.J., according to NBC News.
