A California father and his wife are accused of torturing and killing his 14-month-old daughter.

Alfredo Muñoz Jr., 40, and Kelly Anelalani Muñoz, 34, both face one count each of murder, torture and assault on a child causing death in connection with the death of the child, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Brian Rosenberg alleged during a court hearing in Long Beach on Monday, Dec. 1 that the couple “broke multiple bones over numerous incidents,” starting on July 1, 2025, according to the Long Beach Post.

On Nov. 7, the Long Beach Police Department responded to Miller Children’s Hospital regarding “a possible child abuse incident,” according to a press release.

The child, who was identified as Tilly S., was found “unresponsive and with signs of trauma,” per the release. She was put on life support but died three days later from her injuries.

Detectives began investigating and determined that “there had been on-going abuse to the child and the victim’s death was a result of abuse from her father and stepmother,” according to the release.

“The tragic death of this little girl is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacred responsibility we all share to protect our children from harm,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. “Our Office is committed to seeking justice for Tilly and ensuring those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Alfredo Muñoz previously pleaded no contest to one count of willful cruelty to a child causing possible injury or death, according to court records and a law enforcement source, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2021, per the Times.

An arraignment hearing is scheduled for the couple on Dec. 16.
