A Tennessee mother has been arrested and charged after authorities say her two children were hospitalized after consuming her THC gummies.
Candice Hickson, 43, was booked into the Gibson County jail on Nov. 30, WBBJ-TV reported.
Deputies responded to the 300 block of Trenton Highway on Nov. 28 after a caller advised that her children had consumed an unknown amount of her THCA gummies that were stored in her bathroom, according to an affidavit from the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office obtained by the news station.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the two children — ages 2 and 4 — being unresponsive.
Hickson told deputies “when she went into the bathroom, her children were able to reach her THCA product,” according to the affidavit cited by WBBJ-TV.

The children were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment, according to WMC/Gray News and WBBJ-TV.
They were treated and released within 48 hours, according to WBBJ-TV and a press release from the Tennessee District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee, 28th Judicial District, obtained by ABC News.
According to Gibson County online records reviewed by PEOPLE, Hickson has been charged with child abuse/neglect/endangerment. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16.
Both children were placed under the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services after their mother failed a drug test for methamphetamine, ABC News reported, citing the press release.

“Our Office will prosecute this case within the letter of the law, balancing the need to help Ms. Hickson get treatment for her addiction, so that she can eventually reunite with her children in a safe environment,” Agee said in a press statement, per ABC News.
