A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly running over a stroller, severely injuring a baby and a toddler.
Chester Lamont Gordon was arrested on Friday, Dec. 5, for allegedly running over a 3-year-old who was walking and a baby who was in a stroller in San Bernardino, Calif., CBS Los Angeles reported.
Alina Burgos, who is just a few months old, and her 3-year-old brother Alonso were walking with their parents on Arrowhead Avenue on Monday, Dec. 1, when Gordon allegedly sped into them, according to KTLA.

The toddler was thrown to the ground, and Gordon’s vehicle allegedly dragged the infant and the stroller for 350 feet, CBS reported. The San Bernardino Police Department seized Gordon’s car. He was later booked for a felony hit-and-run and reckless driving.
PEOPLE has reached out to SBPD for comment.
Police confirmed to the outlet that the baby girl and 3-year-old boy were brought to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries, according to CBS.
Their father told CBS that Alonso is recovering from a broken leg, and the infant has a brain bleed and ruptured spleen. As of Wednesday, Dec. 3, they were still in the hospital but have been released from ICU.

The children’s aunt, Yesenia Burgos, has started a GoFundMe to assist with their medical expenses. “On Monday evening, our family’s world was shattered when my brother, Marcelo Burgos, and the mother of his children, Karina Burgos, experienced every parent’s worst nightmare,” Burgos wrote in the fundraiser description.
Burgos continued, “As their aunt, watching my brother and Karina endure this unimaginable pain is heartbreaking. No parent should ever have to stand beside their child’s hospital bed and wonder what tomorrow will bring. Their lives were changed in an instant, and the emotional, physical, and financial toll is overwhelming.”

Burgos went on to explain that she hopes her family can focus on the long recovery ahead without fear of the financial burden of the children’s medical expenses.
“We are humbly asking for your support during this incredibly painful time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help cover medical bills, ongoing care, transportation, and essential living expenses while this family fights for the recovery of Alina and Alonso,” Burgos added.
