Morgan Geyser, one of the attackers in the 2014 Slender Man-inspired stabbing incident, has been found after fleeing a group home facility.
The Madison Police Department (MPD) shared in an update on Sunday, Nov. 23, that 22-year-old Geyser was taken into custody in Illinois, hours after she went missing after escaping her Wisconsin group home.
“On Nov. 23, at approximately 10:34 p.m., the MPD received confirmation that Morgan Geyser was taken into custody in the state of Illinois,” the authorities said in the release. “There is no longer a need to search for Morgan Geyser at this time.”
Geyser cut off her Department of Corrections (DOC) monitoring bracelet and fled her group home on Saturday, Nov. 22, the MPD said in a previous statement posted on Facebook a few hours earlier.
She was last seen at 8 p.m. local time on Saturday, Nov. 22, “in the area of Kroncke Dr. around 8 p.m. [local time] with an adult acquaintance,” per the statement.

At around 9:30 p.m., the DOC was alerted that Geyser’s GPS monitoring bracelet was “malfunctioning.” The group home staff informed the DOC that Geyser had “removed her GPS bracelet” and that she had disappeared from the home.
The MPD “was notified of Geyser’s disappearance” on Sunday morning and released a missing persons report.

Geyser was housed in a group home by Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services under court order in January, as a condition of her release from her psychiatric care facility, where she had been placed after the 2014 stabbing.
Geyser and Anissa Weier, who were 12 years old at the time, lured their classmate Payton Leutner into the woods while playing hide-and-seek during a sleepover in their Milwaukee suburb. Geyser then stabbed Leutner 19 times as Weier cheered her on. Leutner, who survived the attack, crawled into a nearby bike path and was rescued by a passerby.

Geyser and Weier admitted to the crime, saying that they wanted to please the 2009 illustrated supernatural character Slender Man, whom they believed was real at the time.
The pair were charged with first-degree intentional homicide and tried as adults. Geyser and Weier were later found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and were placed in psychiatric facilities.

In March, a judge ordered Geyser to be released from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute and sent to a group home for supervised release. Geyser was ordered to wear a monitoring bracelet as part of the conditions, per ABC News.
