A dead baby was found under a pile of leaves behind a public housing complex in New York City, according to police.

New York Police Department officers responded to a 911 call Thursday morning about an unconscious baby found behind the New York City Housing Authority’s Bay View Houses in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, an NYPD spokesperson told PEOPLE.

“Upon arrival, officers were informed that an unidentified male newborn had been found unconscious and unresponsive,” the spokesperson said.

EMS responded and pronounced the as-yet unidentified baby boy dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, per the spokesperson.

The boy’s body was found in a black bag in a pile of leaves, sources said, PIX11, the New York Daily News and NBC New York report. The baby will undergo an autopsy to determine when and how he died.

Police are continuing to investigate.
