A Florida man was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter after police said he struck killed a beloved math teacher and his son, who were walking in a crosswalk.

Mitchell Patch, an elementary school math teacher, was walking across a street with his 1-year-old son, Everett, when they were struck by a Honda Civic traveling eastbound on May 16, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Following a six-month investigation, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of Logan Fletcher Park, 24, in connection with the incident.

After the crash, Park was taken to the hospital, where his blood alcohol content was allegedly found to be .107, which is over the legal limit, authorities said.

Park turned himself in on Sunday, Nov. 9 after a warrant for his arrest was issued, according to the sheriff’s office.

PEOPLE previously reported that Patch had attended a party at a restaurant prior to the crash and was holding his son as he crossed the street.

“We were in the middle of a rush when it happened,” Dylan Williams, manager of the place where the party was held, told WJXT. “Next thing you know, we just started seeing flashing lights. It started getting bigger. So we kind of figured something more intense happened.”
