NEED TO KNOW

  • Carrie Weiser was convicted in 2024 of murdering New York man Scott Myers, 68
  • She alleged that she acted in self-defense when he tried to rape her
  • Another man came forward after Myers’ murder saying Weiser had allegedly stabbed him during sex — nearly killing him, prosecutors said

A New York woman who was convicted of fatally stabbing a man after a night out together has learned her fate.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, Carrie Weiser, 36, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the 2021 murder of Scott Myers, 68 — both residents of Catskill.

In June 2024, a jury in Greene County convicted Weiser to second-degree murder for stabbing Myers in the neck in late November 2021.

The two initially met in 2018 and ran into each other again in November 2021 at a food pantry before they went to a bar on the night Myers, a local activist, was killed, the Times Union reports. He was murdered after he and Weiser walked to his home after leaving the bar, authorities said, per the outlet.

Weiser allegedly told police during her arrest that he tried to rape her and that she stabbed him in self defense after he spiked her drink.

Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said in a statement that investigators found no evidence of those allegations.

“Weiser has serious, serious mental health issues which she has exhibited through her criminal acts, and she showed no interest in mental health treatment,” Stanzione said, adding that Myers wasn’t the first person Weiser is alleged to have stabbed in the neck.

“In April of 2020, another man went to Columbia Memorial Hospital after being stabbed in his neck,” Stanzione said in the statement.

That man nearly died but was saved by hospital staff. He initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement, but upon learning that Myers was stabbed to death, he contacted authorities “because he was afraid Weiser would continue in her quest of stabbing men,” per the statement.

The man allegedly told authorities that Weiser told him during a sexual encounter that she “wanted to use her knife to make a small cut in his neck — that it would heighten their sexual experience,” Stanzione said.

“Instead, she stabbed him twice, nearly causing his death,” he said.

During the trial, Weiser and her attorney “chose to allege several alternate defenses, such as ‘Weiser was defending herself against abuse by Scott Myers,’ for which there was no evidence,” Stanzione said.

Her attorney also alleged that Myers tried to rape her, Stanzione said, adding that there was no evidence of a rape — something Weiser herself denied during her police interview the day of the murder, per the statement.

Weiser’s attorney also alleged that Myers drugged her, so “she doesn’t remember anything,” but according to Stanzione, there is also no evidence that he drugged her.

During the trial, however, Weiser’s attorney played a recording of the 911 call Weiser made that night in which she can be heard slurring her speech and sounding like she was “out of her mind,” the Times Union reports.

Her lawyer also alleged that Myers stabbed himself, “to which there was contradictory evidence presented by the forensic pathologist,” Stanzione said in the statement. After Weiser was found guilty of killing Myers, her attorney attempted to have her sentence reduced alleging she was a victim of domestic violence.

“My staff and law enforcement spent weeks following up on these allegations, which included speaking with witnesses, reviewing documents, and listening to jail phone calls,” Stanzione said. “Ms. Weiser proved to be quite the cunning individual. She showed no remorse at any stage of the proceedings.”

In summarizing his thoughts on the sentence, Stanzione said Weiser “received the life sentence that she earned and deserves,” per the statement.
