If you own one of the following Lezyne bike pumps, you may want to stop using it.

The California-based brand announced a recall on Thursday for about 7,500 of its bike pumps for a manufacturing issue. The pumps’ canisters can forcefully eject from the base when pressurized, posing a risk of serious injury from impact to the user or bystanders, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Lezyne announced the recall after identifying one report of serious facial injuries caused by the defect.

This recall includes two models of Lezyne bicycle floor pumps: the Pressure Over Drive (with analog gauge) and the Digital Pressure Over Drive (with digital gauge).

These black tubeless floor pumps are made of steel and aluminum, with a natural wood-colored handle and a nylon-reinforced braided hose.

The Lezyne logo is printed on the pump’s side. However, only floor pumps with a bleed valve on the front of the base are included in the recall.

Recall Remedy: Owners Must Disable Their Pump

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pumps and begin the process of returning their pump. Lezyne’s product recall page outlines the process for consumers to disable their pump before returning.

After identifying that their pump is affected by this recall, Lezyne instructs owners to saw or drill a hole in the aluminum canister. Owners must also provide photos of the brand name on the pump, the hole/cut made to disable it, and the bleed port on the front of the pump.

Note: If you do not feel comfortable performing these actions, Lezyne encourages owners to visit a local bike shop to “assist with the destruction process.” It is unclear if this service would be free of charge or reimbursed by the brand.

The pump replacement is free, and so is shipping. If you own one of these pumps, visit the brand’s website to register the recalled product and get instructions on how to properly dispose of it. Proof of purchase is not required.

The pumps were sold at bicycle stores around the U.S., including Art’s Cyclery, Incycle, Bike Bling, Sports Basement, and Over the Edge Sports. They were also sold online at ride.lezyne.com, Jensonusa.com, Backcountry.com, and Velotech.com from May 2016 through Dec. 2021 for between $150 and $180.
