  • Conn. State Troopers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in Killingly on Monday, Oct. 27
  • There they found Andrew Michael Olson, 39, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest
  • Troopers found Michelle Yeagher, 65, in bed and arrested her and charged her with murder, police allege

A Connecticut woman is accused of fatally shooting a man while he watched Toy Story with a child, police said.

State troopers responded to a report of a shooting at a Killingly home on Monday evening and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to an arrest report reviewed by PEOPLE.

Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was later identified as Andrew Michael Olson, 39, of Canterbury, a state police report states, according to WPRI, NBC Connecticut and the New York Daily News.

He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.

A 12-year-old boy told troopers he was watching Toy Story with Olson when Michelle Yeagher, 65, came into the room and shot the man, authorities allege, per the outlets.

Yeagher was located inside the home and quickly detained.

She is charged with murder, carrying a firearm while under the influence, risk of injury to a child and first-degree reckless endangerment, and is being held on a $1 million bond.

According to the arrest report cited by the outlets, troopers said they found Yeagher in bed and that she appeared to be highly intoxicated.

The troopers asked her what happened and she allegedly replied, “He tried to kill me,” per the report.

“I shot him,” she allegedly continued. “He came after me, I shot him.”

Yeagher was also taken to the hospital, where she told troopers she was upset from things that had happened that day and started drinking that night. She said Olson and the child came over and she went to sleep — then woke up, suddenly felt terrified, got her gun from a safe and then remembers seeing someone on the floor, the report alleges.

Authorities did not provide details of the relationship between Yeagher, Olson and the child.

In a GoFundMe set up to help defray funeral costs, the organizer called Olson “a kind, generous man, and a loving father, son, brother, and friend” with a “heart of gold.”

“He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought,” reads the GoFundMe. “He was so deeply loved by everyone who knew him, and his absence has left an emptiness that can never be filled.”

It is unclear whether Yeagher has retained an attorney who can comment on her behalf. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11.
