  • He was arrested on a warrant for allegedly fatally shooting a 20-year-old man in Seattle
  • While he was being held in the California jail, he was accidentally released and now police are looking for him

A man suspected of murder was mistakenly released from a California jail — and now authorities are searching for him.

On Wed., Oct. 22, Isaiah Jamon Andrews of Kent, Wash., was released from the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez, Calif., the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement on Monday, Oct. 27.

Andrews was being held on a juvenile warrant out of Sacramento, and on an out-of-state arrest warrant on suspicion of homicide, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the release.

In the statement, the sheriff’s office said that “after staff realized Andrews had been released, we launched a search of the immediate area and confirmed that Andrews was no longer in the area.” 

The U.S. Marshals Service as well as local law enforcement agencies are helping to search for Andrews.

Andrews was arrested on Oct. 18 in California in connection with the fatal Oct. 15 shooting of a 20-year-old man in a hotel parking lot in Seattle, Wash., according to an update from Seattle police.

He was arrested after a vehicle pursuit involving the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and other California law enforcement agencies.

He was booked into Contra Costa County Jail on a temporary felony warrant on suspicion of homicide.

He was in jail in California awaiting extradition to King County Jail in Washington so he could be booked for investigation of murder, Seattle police said in the update.
