  • Wilson allegedly told police he was hiding in his ex-girlfriend’s daughter’s closet when she returned home with Miller before the shooting
  • Wilson briefly held onto the woman’s phone as she begged to call emergency services, an affidavit alleges

A Texas man has been arrested following a shooting in his ex-girlfriend’s home that resulted in the death of the woman’s lover.

Officers responding to an early morning shooting in a Converse, Texas home on Sunday, Oct. 26 found Noel Denzel Miller suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement this week.

Miller, 35, was pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital.

Police arrested 23-year-old Shiateek Wilson later that day in connection with the shooting.

Wilson allegedly told police he went to his ex-girlfriend’s house around 1 a.m. and hid in her daughter’s closet with flowers to surprise the woman, according to the sheriff’s office statement. As he waited for her to return home, he drank a beverage and watched videos, per the statement.

The woman, whose name has not been publicly shared, told investigators soon after she had returned home with Miller, the two decided take a shower together, according to an arrest affidavit cited by KSAT. As she waited in the shower for Miller, she heard gunshots and ran to her son’s upstairs bedroom, where she found a wounded Miller, per the affidavit.

She claimed that Wilson was also there and had a handgun on him, the sheriff’s office said in the statement.

She alleged Wilson briefly held onto her phone, withholding her from calling emergency personnel as she begged him, KSAT reported, citing the affidavit.

Wilson then allegedly fled the scene, per the sheriff’s office, and was arrested later that day.

Miller is being mourned by his family and friends.

“The hood is gonna feel this one,” read a Facebook post by Nathan Devon Liggins. “Noel Miller brought joy to a lot of people it’s sad to see his story end so soon RIP my friend.”

“A piece of my heart was just ripped away,” read another post from Wendell Monroe. “…having to tell this to my mom, dad and lil brother ended me: Rest in Heaven Noel; I’ll love you forever my baby and keep your name alive.”

Another family member shared on social media that they are gathering funds to lay him to rest.

He is awaiting indictment and is being held on a $300,000 bond. An attorney listed for Wilson in court records did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
