Texas Man Who Grabbed Sleeping 4-Year-Old from Bedroom and Fatally Stabbed Him Sentenced to Life in Prison By Liam Quinn

A Texas man who kidnapped and stabbed a 4-year-old boy to death pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Darriynn Brown pleaded guilty to murder the day his trial was supposed to begin in Dallas, according to reports from WFAA, CBS News Texas and Fox 4.

In May 2021, 4-year-old Cash Gernon was found dead on the street. Brown was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping, according to Dallas police.

Following his guilty plea, Brown was sentenced to life in prison, the outlets reported.

Fox 4 reported that Cash and his brother were being watched by a family friend when the kidnapping happened.

Surveillance footage showed Brown carrying the sleeping boy from his bedroom hours before he was found in a pool of blood, WFAA reported, citing Dallas police.

CBS reported that Cash’s body was found by a jogger, who initially thought it was a dog.

WFAA reported that Brown had previously been ruled not competent to stand trial, but that ruling was later reversed after a judge reportedly said his competency was restored after receiving treatment.

“I wish you nothing but misery,” Cash’s grandmother said during victim impact statements, according to CBS.
