When it comes to modern load-bearing equipment, shaving off ounces without compromising durability has become an increasingly important priority.

Many operators and competitive shooters know that belts often carry the burden of excess weight while also becoming cluttered or obstructed when paired with armor or slung weapons.

The Exitus Lab Light Assault Belt, designed and manufactured in Turku, Finland, sets out to solve this problem with a unique design that emphasizes weight savings, ergonomics, and accessibility.

Design and Construction

The Exitus Lab stands out immediately for its weight. At just 129 grams without padding, it is the lightest assault belt currently available. To achieve that, the Finnish designers employed a combination of NIR-treated fabric laminated with precision laser-cut polymer.

This approach ensures the belt is both strong and resistant to wear, while also presenting a low visual signature under night-vision systems.

The belt features the latest Cobra polymer buckle, which maintains high strength while reducing weight. A Velcro lining allows it to be paired with an inner belt, or users can opt for additional comfort by adding padding. Its wide adjustment range accommodates waist sizes from 85 to 130 cm, with extension options available for larger users.

Ergonomics and Accessibility

The most distinctive feature of the Exitus Lab is the unconventional orientation of its MOLLE slots. At the front of the belt, slots are rotated 90 degrees, specifically to address the issue of slung rifles and armor interfering with magazine or tool access.

This layout allows for smooth draws of tourniquets, OC spray, shotgun shell carriers, or other mission-critical tools, even when the operator is fully kitted.

Additionally, the MOLLE rows on either side of the belt are canted in opposing directions to accommodate natural movement. On the support side, they’re angled backward, while on the strong side, they’re angled forward.

This small but practical detail facilitates natural cross-draw motions, reducing fumbling under stress when fine motor skills may already be compromised.

Applications

While not intended for climbing or rope rescue, the Exitus Lab is designed for a wide spectrum of serious users.

Its combination of weight reduction and ergonomic accessibility makes it particularly well-suited for military personnel, law enforcement officers, and competitive shooters who need to maximize speed and comfort during high-intensity activity.

The belt’s modularity also means users can tailor their loadout without added bulk or wasted space.
