NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice, wrote a letter in support of her son as part of a sentencing memorandum filed by his attorneys
  • Combs was previously convicted on two prostitution-related charges
  • Janice Combs wrote that her son had made “terrible mistakes” but implored the judge to let her son return home to his family

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, wrote a letter of support of her son to the federal judge weighing a prison sentence for the music mogul.

Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted on far more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering following a closely watched federal trial.

The Bad Boy Records founder, who has been behind bars in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest, is set to be sentenced in October and still faces several years in prison.

Janice Combs’ letter was submitted to Judge Arun Subramanian as part of a sentencing memorandum filed by Combs’ legal team.

In the letter, Janice acknowledged that her son “has made some terrible mistakes in his life, which I know he recognizes.”

Combs’ mother also wrote that her son had dealt with traumatic experiences beginning at a young age, including the death of his father when Combs was 2 years old, and the death of his uncle when he was 9.

Janice wrote that in spite of her son’s difficulties, he worked hard to help support her and later his own children.

“On December 21, I will be 85 years old,” Janice wrote. “This separation for the past year while Sean has been incarcerated has been excruciatingly difficult and painful for me and his children. I would like to spend the last few years of my life with my son, Sean.”

The sentencing memorandum included dozens of letters in support of Combs, including letters from his children.

In the memo, Combs’ attorneys asked Subramanian to impose a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would be about equal to the time the mogul has already served behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
